JT reunion cancelled

I'm having trouble as I write this picking the words that will convey the facts without revealing too much private and personal information. It is not a little difficult to hide my frustration but here goes...

Due to an irreconcilable difference with one of the participating members, the Jacob's Trouble reunion show at AtlantaFest 2007 has been cancelled. For the past two weeks we have been praying through this and talking it out, but the end result is that the show will not happen.

On behalf of the band I want to apologize to those of you who have made special arrangements and shelled out money to be there for us. I can only say that the matter is entirely out of my hands and I pray that no one has been too terribly inconvenienced. I can assure you, no one is more hurt and disappointed than we are.

Again, I apologize from the bottom of my heart on behalf of the band and I hope you will continue to pray for us as we each individually seek what God has for us and our families. Do stay tuned to this blog for more behind-the-scenes stories, reminiscences, and archival audio and video. We love you guys and thank you for sticking with us all these years!

In His grip,
Jerry Davison

Please forgive my bluntness.

The first rule of show business is that "the show must go on".

To see the wheels come off and the train derail is frustrating in more ways than one.

First off, I'm frustrated by the lack of professionalism being displayed by someone in the band.

I'm well aware that most of these guys have been working musicians, so for them to balk at the gig since it's announcement shows a major lack of professionalism.

Guess what guys!?! Journey has been touring without Steve Perry and they can still put on a great show. Paige & Plant did a tour. And apparently these guys named McCartney, Harrison, and Starr even had lunch together or something.

I'm sorry that everyone has decided that 0% is better than 75%.

I know that JT was always a band that willingly evangelized, and that akwardness onstage with a member missing might be felt to inhibit the show on a spiritual level, but it's a shame to see your light and talents hidden away. Again.

It's out of deepest love and sincerity when I tell you that if God could speak to a bunch of guys through a donkey. I'm sure that He'd do something special talking through you monkies.

I'm also frustrated FOR the person who has decided not to participate.

My sincerest hope is that everyone in JT is willing to reach out to God for forgiveness, peace, and mercy, and that resentment and divisons, both spiritual and emotional, can be bridged and that relationships can be healed.

Finally, at the risk of being a jerk, (and please believe me I am NOT trying to start a flame war against ANYONE), I am frustrated the most for the fans like myself.

The bottom line is that JT has always had a loyal fanbase, following them from show to show, buying CDs and merchandise, and supporting the group.

Granted, we may not have been in the same voluminous quantity as DC Talk (or Carmen!) fans, but we were there willing to help support you in your goals.

I'll put it bluntly.

Once upon a time your livelihoods depended on your fan base and you were thankful to see us walk through the door. It allowed you guys another stint on the road, helped you get to another show, covered your dinners, and maybe even helped pay the bills.

Honestly, I find it hard not to see this as a slap in the face to the people who supported you then, and who wanted to share in the enjoyment of a show with you in the here and now.

Some of us still have your CDs, sing your songs, and best of all, remember the truth of your message.

I also remember you as one of the few bands in CCM who were cut from a different mold. In my humble opinion, not one homogonized Christian band since has come close to filling your shoes.

Hopefully those of us who bought tickets, with the intent of attending your show, will be able to get a refund.

I'm sorry if my comment is full of vinegar and not full of love and understanding. I do hope that God blesses each of you and your families, and that He continues to move in your lives and brings you to wonderful new places.

I also hopes that one of these days he lights a fire under youz guyz buttz and shows you that taking a moment to reflect and relive the past isn't something to be ashamed of, but something to revel in and cherish.

It is possible to bury old hatchets and find pleasure in the past.

And for whatever it's worth, time marches on for us all. It's okay to be rusty, hit some wrong notes, forget the lyrics, and wear a larger pair of purple pin striped pants.

I wasn't expecting the whacky antics of the Troubling Jacoberries all over again.

I was just expecting to see some old friends set the Way Back Machine to the early 90's (or was it the 1960's?) and remind me how special, how much fun, and how blessed those days were.

Until we meet again.

Disappointedly yours,

-R.
